Two of our PhD students' papers have been accepted for presentation at the ISSCC 2014 Student Research Preview

PhD student SHANG, Yang's work "Design of High Sensitivity CMOS Sub-THz Imaging Receiver" and HUANG, Xiwei's work "Design of Dual-mode CMOS ISFET Sensor for DNA Sequencing" have been accepted for presentation at the ISSCC 2014 Student Research Preview, to be held in San Francisco on FEB 9, 2014.

NTU ERIAN-EEE team ZHANG, Yonghao (ERIAN staff), HUANG, Hantao (EEE undergraduate student) and QIU, Danqing (EEE MS student), supervised by Asst. Prof. YU, Hao (EEE) has won the first prize of NTU-Infineon Electronic Design Competition 2012/2013

NTU ERIAN-EEE team ZHANG, Yonghao (ERIAN staff), HUANG, Hantao (EEE undergraduate student) and QIU, Danqing (EEE MS student), supervised by Asst. Prof. YU, Hao (EEE) has won the first prize of NTU-Infineon Electronic Design Competition with 10,000 SGD. The competition is performed and judged on July 8th at Infineon, Singapore. The objective of this design competition is mainly to develop electronic systems to improve energy efficiency, an emerging problem to address at Singapore. The NTU ERIAN-EEE team has developed an energy cloud system for smart buildings and rooms, which can not only collect energy profiles of rooms; but also analyze the stored energy profile to perform a demand-response energy management. As such workloads can be shifted and peak energy consumption can be reduced. What is more, the energy cloud system also help users remotely access the energy profiles and further perform control by mobile terminals such as iPad. This work has been considered for the future NTU-ECO campus development plan by working with a number of potential industry partners.

Finalist in Student Paper Competition at the 2013 IEEE Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits Symposium (RFIC'13) in Seattle, US 

The paper titled “-78dBm Sensitivity 96GHz Super-regenerative Receiver with Quench-controlled Metamaterial Oscillator in 65nm CMOS” is selected as an Interactive Forum (IF) presentation and presented by Fei Wei (PhD student) in RFIC 2013. This work is the first demonstration of high sensitivity super-regenerative receiver with CMOS on-chip metamaterial based resonator, which is also a joint work by Nanyang Technological University and Fudan University.

PhD student Sai Manoj P.D. has won the Richard Newton Young Fellow award, in memory of Prof. Richard Newton from UC-Berkeley, with 800USD for 50th ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conf. (DAC) at Austin (TX), USA in June 2-6 

PhD student Sai Manoj P. D. has won the Richard Newton Young Fellow award with the paper titled “Peak Power Reduction by Space-time Multiplexing based Demand-supply Matching for 3D Thousand-core Microprocessors” for the 50th ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conf. (DAC) at Austin (TX), USA in June 2-6, 2013DAC is the premier conference in electronic circuit design and automation sponsored by ACM and IEEE with ~5000 attendance from both leading industry and academia.

Finalist in Student Paper Competition at 13th Topical Meeting on Silicon Monolithic Integrated Circuits in RF Systems (SiRF 2013) in Austin, US

The paper titled “A 76 GHz Oscillator by High-Q Differential Transmission Line Loaded with Split Ring Resonator in 65-nm CMOS” is presented by Shang Yang (PhD student) in both poster and oral presentation session in SiRF 2013. This work is the first demonstration of low phase noise CMOS on-chip metamaterial based oscillator design beyond 60GHz, which is also a joint work by Nanyang Technological University and Fudan University.

Best Student Paper Award at the Workshop on Microfluidics for Biomedical and Environmental Engineering, jointly organized by Nanyang Technological University and the University of Tokyo

HUANG Xiwei (PhD student) was one of four to receive the Best Student Paper Award at the joint Workshop on Microfluidics for Biomedical and Environmental Engineering held at the Nanyang Executive Centre, NTU on 16 March 2012. The winning poster titled "High-throughput Microfluidic Contact Imaging System for Bio-medical Applications”, is the first work from academia to design the high-speed CMOS imager for microfluidic contact imaging system, along with super-resolution algorithm to enhance the sensor resolution and performance. 3D heterogeneous integration of MEMS + CMOS: a closer look

Singapore researchers from Nanyang Technological University reported on the 3D integration of MEMS and CMOS using Cu-Cu bonding. I-Micronews thought this deserved ”A Closer Look”.

At the recent IEEE 3DIC meeting in Japan, researchers from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore reported on the 3D integration of MEMS and CMOS using Cu-Cu bonding to simultaneously achieve electrical and mechanical bonding and a hermetic seal.. (Details)

Best Paper Award Nomination at the 17th Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference (ASP-DAC'12) in Sydney, Australia. 

The paper (done by PhD student Shang Yang and Fei Wei) titled “Fast Simulation of Hybrid CMOS and STT-MTJ Circuits with Identified Internal State Variables” has won the Best Paper Award Nomination in ASP-DAC 2013.
